When the water source is sufficient and the water temperature is low, the cooling mode of the power station should be water-cooled, that means using water as refrigerant to cool the air in the generator room of diesel generating sets. The conditions for designing water-cooled power stations are that there should be sufficient natural water sources, such as well water, spring water, River water, lake water or other available water sources, good water quality, non-toxic, tasteless, non-pathogenic bacteria, non-corrosive to metals, and the contents of inorganic and organic substances such as sediment in water should meet the standards.
If water-cooled, the temperature should be low. The difference between the room temperature of diesel generator set and that of water-cooled water should be greater than 15 degrees Celsius, and generally not less than 10 degrees Celsius. If the water temperature is high, the temperature difference between the return air and the supply air is small and the air supply system is large, so the construction investment and operation cost must be increased.
Compared with other cooling modes, the advantages of water-cooled power station are that the air intake and exhaust volume are smaller, so the air intake and exhaust pipes are smaller. Water-cooled power station is less affected by the external atmospheric temperature of the project, and can ensure the air cooling of the generator room in any season. The disadvantage is that the water consumption is large and limited by the water source conditions. When there is no sufficient low-temperature water source in the project, the cooling method can not be adopted.
The cooling mode of water-cooled power station can adopt the sprinkler cooling mode, also called water-washed air. Because the hot air in the machine room is directly in contact with the water droplets, the cooling and heat exchange effect is better. At the same time, the harmful dust in the machine room can be washed by the water to make it clean.
Surface cooling can also be used in water-cooled power plants, that means the hot air in the generator room exchanges heat with the cooling water on the surface of the metal cooler. The advantage of this cooling method is flexible cooling system, which can be configured according to the need, and does not occupy or occupy less the area of diesel generator room. For example, some diesel power generators with closed cycle cooling are equipped with head radiators, which can not be used in the closed power plant room. The cooling water of diesel engine can be changed into an open system, and cooling water is introduced into the head radiator to reduce the temperature of the engine room and eliminate the waste heat of the power plant.
