During the 7th Selection of My Trusted Commercial Vehicle Power System held on November 2, YC6K13-50 was awarded the honor of “My Trusted Heavy-duty Engine” again.
Indeed, YC6K is an engine with the largest displacement, power and torque among all eligible products; however, the excellent power performance is definitely not the only reason for its success.
CPC Secretary Huang Yi of Guangxi Yuchai Machinery Co., Ltd. told the reporter that, “The introduction of YC6K in the market is a technical revolution for this industry and Yuchai. We have every reason to believe that this engine will be one of the mainstream products of the heavy duty truck market of China.”
Accurate Prediction of Market Trend
The trend of the high power engine is becoming more and more clear in the heavy duty truck industry. Early in 2010, Yuchai launched its high power YC6K heavy duty diesel engine, which has been keeping many leading records till now, such as the overhead camshaft design, the reliability growth technology and the gantry-type cylinder body, etc.
YC6K is a diesel engine developed through 5 years’ co-development of Yuchai and AVL, which is integrated with many state-of-the-art technical achievements around the world, and has over 30 invention patents and over 100 utility patents.
As the first four-valve heavy duty diesel engine with overhead camshaft design which meets the emission standards from Euro III to Euro VI in China, YC6K is featured with high strength valve train and low noise (2dB lower than traditional products), high starting point, high reliability and high return rate. Now this product is quite popular in the market, of which some performance indicators are unattainable for the traditional engine with lateral camshaft design.
YC6K realized the first application of the reliability growth technology in the engine industry, which broke the reliability bottleneck of engines made in China. The innovative introduction of the precise combustion and electronic control technology have realized the lower fuel consumption and emission; the Top-Down reversed cooling technology is ahead of the competing products for two generations; this technology could ensure that the cylinder head temperature is 15°C lower than the traditional products, which could effectively avoid the failure of cracks in the bridge zone of cylinder head. Based on the high explosive pressure resistance design, the max. explosive pressure of 6K series engines could reach 220bar, which is identical with the data of European Euro VI products. The critical core components adopt 100% international high-end configuration. The innovative application of the frontier technologies and high-strength materials has prolonged the service life of engines remarkably. The service life of B10 engine could reach 1.6 million km, which ranks the top in China.
The excellent performance also originates from the guarantee of material and processing methods. The main structural components of 6K series products, such as the cylinder body and cylinder head, are made from high-strength compacted graphite cast iron, which could ensure lighter weight, thinner wall and higher energy efficiency ratio. A fully-assembled compacted graphite cast iron engine is lighter than the traditional engine for 15%. Higher displacement and lighter weight stand for better fuel efficiency.
YC6K13-50 is upgrading product of the mature product YC6K12-40 by increasing the travel and displacement. The maximum power of this engine could reach 580HP, which makes it the diesel engine for heavy duty vehicles with the largest torque, displacement and power in China since its introduction in market. Besides the displacement increment, technologies of YC6K13 engine are also upgraded, such as steel piston reinforcement, fuel system optimization and usage of products of higher power in the valve auxiliary brake. Therefore, the reliability of the product is further enhanced.
Earn Customers’Trust
Huang Yi believes that YC6K is a very promising engine, which is the benchmark product of the heavy duty truck industry and the most trustworthy product of the customers.
Now Yuchai is focusing on the promotion of YC6K in the heavy duty truck market. From January to October of this year, the sales volume of 6K series products had reached nearly 17,000, which realized a year-on-year increase of 290.8%. The estimated sales volume of this year is over 18,000. Next year, the estimated sales volume will be over 30,000.
Compared to the similar-type engines, Yuchai YC6K is featured with faster start-up, acceleration and climbing, as well as less time-consumption in same distance. The min. oil consumption and the rated oil consumption is 5% - 8% lower than the competing products, which could meet the power requirement of the fast logistic towing vehicles of which the rear axle ratio starts with “2”. The product could be used in the comprehensive semi-trailer towing vehicles like the dump trucks, bulk cement tanker and steel transportation vehicles, etc. The product is also featured with high efficiency, high service rate, low oil consumption and low noise.
On the strength of the advantages like high power, low oil consumption and high reliability, YC6K could help the truck users in realizing remarkable growth of the transportation timeliness and economic efficiency. The policy of free maintenance for unlimited mileage in 3 years also relieves the users from the worries of after-sales service. At present, YC6K engines have been used by Dongfeng Liuzhou Automobile, JAC Heavy Duty Truck, Shanxi DAYUNAUTO, Dongfeng Special Vehicle and C&C Trucks in their diesel / gas 6x4 towing vehicles. YC6K has also been used in the container reach stackers in the ports and large automobile ferries. In future, YC6K will gain greater breakthrough in the fractionized market like 4x2 fast logistic towing vehicles, concrete pump trucks and high power engineering vehicles, etc.
Forerunner of Industry Upgrading
From the vortex diesel engine to direct-injection diesel engine, from the naturally aspirated engine to the turbocharged intercooling engine, from the two-valve engine to the four-valve engine, from the engines with split-type cylinder head to the engines with monobloc cylinder head, Yuchai keeps toppling the traditional power system competition. YC6K is the first step of Yuchai in transformational upgrading and developing high-end products. In future, Yuchai will launch more and more engines with overhead camshaft and roller rock arm like YC6K to lead the high end upgrading of diesel engines made in China.

For emission standard upgrading from Euro I to Euro VI, Yuchai has been acting as the domestic industry leader in emission upgrading. Yuchai’s upgrading is always held 2 - 5 years ahead of the governmental schedule. YC6K has unique advantage during the upgrading because of its Euro VI standard design. At the beginning of this year, by inheriting the advanced technology of 6K product platform, YCK13-60 has been ignited successfully, which is upgraded to Euro VI standard on the basis of K13-50. The explosive pressure of YCK13 could reach 220bar. With the advanced modularized design, the components of YCK13 are fewer and the interchangeability of components is enhanced. Together with the long service life “3 filters” - engine oil filter, fuel filter and air filter co-developed by Yuchai and its subsidiaries, as well as other technical measures, the maintenance cost could be reduced remarkably for the customers.
