Yuchai New Products Gaining Customer Acceptance with Good Quality

On September 21, Engine China 2016 was opened in Beijing. Guangxi Yuchai Machinery Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Yuchai”) brought various products to the exhibition, including YC6K Euro V engine series listed on “2016 Pioneer List of Power”, the first-ever showing V6 diesel engine for special vehicle, YCHPS middle-sized series-parallel hybrid powertrain system and the large YC12VC marine/generator diesel engine. The booth of Yuchai attracted several industrial leaders and experts to visit, including Xing Min, Standing Vice President and Secretary General of China Internal Combustion Engine Industry Association.
The products of Yuchai “Keep ahead in technology and have a better quality” compared with the similar products, said by Huang Yi when he gave an interview with the reporters from China Automotive News. The comment summarizes Yuchai’s experience of steady improvement of products quality over the years and is regarded as the reason of Yuchai for winning groups of loyal customers.
Newly Launched Products Gaining Customer Acceptance
Since all the major diesel engine manufacturers will focus on the high-powered diesel engine market, YC6K Euro V diesel engine is the important strategic product of Yuchai in this market.Huang Yi introduced that the high-powered YC6K Euro V engine series have applied the most stringent standards of Yuchai during the process from conceptual design to production and marketing. This high-powered engine model is a breakthrough for Yuchai in the field of heavy vehicles due to its low fuel consumption, strong power and light weight, helping the product to gain the recognition of multiple automobile assembly plants. The first batch of products equipped on C&C Trucks have been launched on the market and now the company received orders from customers such as Dongfeng Liuzhou Motor Co., Ltd, JAC and DAYUN AUTO. Yuchai gets a good start in high-powered diesel engine market and the total sales is expected to break through 8,000 sets this year.
The first-ever showing V6 diesel engine for special vehicle won more attention from the visitors. Featuring small occupation space of oil pan, low vibration and high power, the engine which is applicable for the low-floor vehicles has come into the market and used as the engine of special vehicles, trucks and buses. “Yuchai constantly intensifies its R&D abilities and has launched V-type diesel engine towards high-end product market. In the future, Yuchai will also release some all-aluminum engines to meet the demands of high-end customers,” said Huang Yi.
As for YCHPS middle-sized series-parallel hybrid powertrain system in the new energy field, it has developed into the third generation with higher levels of integration and more compact models. During the period of the "13th Five-Year Plan", Yuchai will make more achievements in the field of new energy powertrain system. And the sales of its hybrid-electric products and pure electric products will reach RMB 3 billion.
In the off road engine field, Yuchai is accelerating the development of marine/generator engine market. YC12VC marine/generator diesel engine with a power of 1800KW also made its appearance at the exhibition. “Since the engine model series is the best marine/generator diesel engine with 12-cylinder and 16-cylinder models, it has been launched on the market and becomes a new economic growth area of the enterprise,” said Huang Yi.
Quality of Products Enhanced and the Goal of Operating for 1 Million Kilometers without an Overhaul Achieved
Adhering to the idea that quality improvement should be a long-term mission for an engine manufacturer, Yuchai not only strictly controls the fields such as product planning, R&D, designing and manufacturing, but also puts forward corresponding demands to the core suppliers and accessories suppliers.
In 1993, Yuchai took the lead to put forward the quality warranty of “50,000km”, and then higher and higher mileage. Now the quality warranty of 6K engine series of Yuchai have reached “300,000km/36 months”.
“Yuchai has planned the event themed ‘The High-quality Legend, Yuchai Engine Operating for 1 Million Kilometers without an Overhaul’ this year to appreciate the support of loyal customers,” said Huang Yi. It was learnt that in order to increase the loyalty of customers, Yuchai provided a large amount of preferential policies for after-sale service, including “3+2” service and maintenance policies.
The achievement of operating for 1 million kilometers without an overhaul has basically achieved the goal of no overhaul during the lifetime of vehicles, which helps customers to obtain higher profits by saving a great deal of money and a large amount of time. Since the quality improvement of Yuchai’s products gains customers’ satisfaction and enhances the brand influence, more and more new products with capability of operating for 1 million kilometers without an overhaul are being manufactured.
Expanding Foreign Market and Enhancing Brand Influence
In the first half of this year, the income of overseas business of Yuchai increases by 8%, and the overseas business is still dominated by the traditional engine markets of trucks and buses.?In addition to the stable market sales in Southeast Asia, Central Asia, Russia and South America, Yuchai has newly exploited the off road engine market in Europe and sells generator engines to Turkey, and will enter the market of Germany and Italy in the future.
“It is a breakthrough for the overseas market of Yuchai to enter European market, which is benefited from the joint venture between Yuchai and MTU early this year, as well as the quality improvement and competitive capability of Yuchai engine compared with foreign similar products,” said Huang Yi.
Yuchai will constantly exploit new overseas markets and strengthen the layout of outlets in regions such as Africa and South America. Most importantly, since the brand influence of Yuchai is not so remarkable around the world, the enhancement of brand influence will be the main task for Yuchai to complete.
